* Color code Roman Empire map, using an overhead projector (yes, I still have one, as well as, chalkboards). Then do guided reading worksheet with textbooks (p. 282-289)
Christianity – History: 1, 2, 7 Govt. 16 + 17
* “What is Christianity?” guided video. * Mini lecture while reviewing paper, take poll of Catholics and different forms of Protestants, on chalkboard. Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal (Church of God), Nazarene, Baptists, etc. * Mini lecture on the growth of The Church and stained glass. * Create stained glass design or can do when covering Middle Ages. (1 piece of black const. paper, 5-6 colors tissue paper)
Islam – History: 1, 2, 5, Govt. 16 + 17, Geog.: 12 - 15, Econ.: 20 + 21 * Label map and fill out graphic organizer from powerpoint * Map quiz * Islam movie, review guided reading sheet. * Review map again. * With groups of 4, cover scenarios of Muslim beliefs. Allow 3-5 minutes for them to read their scenarios and excerpts from the Quran and/or Hadith on their copy, and formulate a response. Review each group’s scenario and record on worksheet. * If time allows pass out blank paper and allow groups to do visual presentations for Islamic poetry (model with introductory poem), or translate Arabic message for bonus points. * Islam test.
Comparison of Christianity to Islam paper (optional) – Language Arts Standards
* Use notes to fill out T-chart. Using this paper, write a letter (business and block format), which compares and contrasts the 2 religions. Guidelines: At least 5 paragraphs – 1 intro (3 sent.), 3 body (5 sent. ea.), 1 closing (3 sent.) Rough draft, peer edit, then final copy, if time.
